Members of the delegation and I visited the China-UAE Industrial Capacity Cooperation Demonstration Park in Abu Dhabi this morning. This Demonstration Park is an overseas Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (ETCZ) which our motherland promoted establishing in the Middle East, also a versatile development project under the “Belt and Road” Initiative. A Chinese company, Jiangsu Overseas Cooperation and Investment Company (JOCIC), is the investor, developer and operator of the Demonstration Park.
During the tour around the Park, I met many Chinese workers and learnt they all came from the mother country to work in the UAE. They have been working vigorously to build this ETCZ and contribute to the “Belt and Road”. I had a fruitful exchange with Zi Feng, a project manager from Fujian Province, and Jian Guo, an engineer from Jiangsu Province. Zi Feng and Jiang Guo had worked in the UAE for six years and three years respectively and told me they had been enjoying their work and lives there. They were thankful for the support of the mother country, which helped them integrate into the local community with ease.
The success of the Demonstration Park, which is a joint project between China and the UAE, is a testament to the significance and potential of the “Belt and Road” Initiative. I always encourage Hong Kong enterprises to make good use of ETCZs and explore business opportunities in “Belt and Road” countries. The Demonstration Park sets a good example and offers valuable experience for the Hong Kong enterprises who wish to expand their business in the Middle East.
